An entrepreneur on the ground. A pilot at heart.

Dan Guzmán's entrepreneurial story includes a personal SUV that became the starting point for a transportation company, a smoked-meat kitchen opened during the pandemic, and travel ventures connecting the Dominican Republic with the wider world. The common thread is his enthusiasm for turning an idea into something people can actually use.

His career began with a different kind of curiosity: understanding people. As a teenager, he conducted face-to-face market research interviews in the Dominican Republic. He later moved into quantitative analysis, consulting and market development, eventually managing a research operation in Miami and working on projects across the Caribbean and Latin America. Along the way, he earned a marketing degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra.

In 2012, he co-founded Transekur. The company's first vehicle was a Chevrolet Suburban he had originally bought for himself. His work has since focused on the commercial and digital side of the business, from its website and online reservations to customer-management systems and the technology that helps turn a booking into a coordinated service.

The road soon led to the film industry. In 2014, he established Transekur Transpo, supplying mobile dressing rooms, wardrobe and makeup trailers, and specialised equipment for film and entertainment productions. It brought a different set of customers and practical challenges, with the same need for careful coordination behind the scenes.

During the pandemic, another interest became a business. Dan opened Danny's Smokehouse in Santo Domingo, a delivery-only kitchen serving smoked meats. It was a different venture from moving passengers or supporting a film set, and a more personal expression of his love of cooking. For that chapter, the journey ended at the customer's dinner table.

His work in travel also expanded through Altura VIP services, offering airport concierge, premium transportation and travel assistance internationally through his U.S.-based business. His ventures in the United States extend to property investment and short-term-rental hospitality, adding another perspective on how people travel and where they stay.

Today, he lives in Punta Cana and continues developing businesses in both the Dominican Republic and the United States. Across these ventures, he remains particularly interested in the connection between service and technology: how a better booking experience, clearer communication or a well-designed system can make life easier for the customer and the team delivering the service. What drives him most is creating — taking a company from an idea to a working operation. Over the past year, that has meant working as a systems architect, using AI-assisted development to design and build the software behind several of his companies. He is, by his own admission, a bit of an AI geek.

Away from business, Dan is a private pilot and former aircraft owner. Flying is his greatest passion. He also enjoys cooking and discovering a good meal, but the cockpit holds a particular place in his life.

On the Transekur travel blog, he writes about Dominican destinations, airports, private transportation and the practical details of getting around. His perspective comes from living in the country, building travel businesses and thinking about the part of a journey that begins when a traveller lands.
