Santa Bárbara de Samaná is the peninsula's bay town — a working waterfront and Malecón facing the bay where humpback whales come in season, with the El Limón waterfall in the hills behind and the Cayo Levantado boats leaving from the pier.
It is a base for nature days rather than a resort strip, so travel here is mostly point to point: the pier, the waterfall trailhead, the hotel and the airport.

Samaná El Catey (AZS) is the peninsula's airport and the shortest arrival when its seasonal schedule works for you.
Most travelers, though, arrive at Santo Domingo (SDQ) and drive the Nordeste highway corridor — one direct private trip, no transfers or changes along the way. Punta Cana (PUJ) is served too, but it is a considerably longer drive.
