Identify your terminal

A destination label can describe a wider region without identifying the terminal itself. Read the itinerary supplied by your cruise company before researching ground transport. For Puerto Plata, distinguish Amber Cove from Taíno Bay; these names identify facilities serving the northern coast. La Romana belongs to the southeast. This geographical distinction matters when you look at hotels or flights, because a countrywide search mixes results from different regions. If your paperwork gives only a general label, ask which facility your vessel will use. Resolve that question before narrowing your options. Port Cabo Rojo, in Pedernales Province, serves the far southwest — it is not a Puerto Plata terminal. Samaná and Santo Domingo complete the set of destinations that recorded cruise passengers in 2025.

Compare the guides

Start with your confirmed port name. The Amber Cove guide concentrates on structuring an excursion day beyond the cruise village. The Taíno Bay guide considers urban outings and coastal destinations. The La Romana guide addresses resort addresses and connections between cruising and flying, including the tender-only Isla Catalina anchorage. The Cabo Rojo guide covers the remote southwest and its protected landscapes. The Samaná guide explains the bay's SeaWalk and tender arrivals. The Santo Domingo guide separates the capital's two tourist terminals. Open whichever guide matches your port, even if another mentions the region where you intend to stay. Your itinerary identifies the correct starting page; your interests determine which guidance becomes useful as you plan.

Samaná and Santo Domingo arrive differently

Samaná's first BayPort stage, inaugurated in April 2026 in Santa Bárbara de Samaná, combines a SeaWalk floating platform for one vessel with tender operations for ships at anchor; a separate project concerns the conversion of Puerto Duarte at Arroyo Barril. Santo Domingo's port at the Ozama River has two tourist terminals, Don Diego and Sans Souci, alongside separate ferry activity. In both cases the name on your itinerary decides the meeting plan, so identify the facility — or share the ship and date — before arranging transport. Isla Catalina, off La Romana, is a tender-only anchorage with no road pickup; the La Romana guide explains how transfers connect on the mainland.

Check airport codes

Airport codes identify arrival regions. Las Américas International Airport is SDQ, serving Santo Domingo; Cibao International Airport is STI, serving Santiago; El Catey International Airport is AZS, serving the Samaná region. Each represents a different airport. Compare the letters on an airline ticket with the airport you are researching, rather than relying on a country name alone. A search result for the Dominican Republic may belong to a different region from your cruise. Use both the seaport name and the aviation code to keep your research consistent from the outset.

Define each journey

Separate your holiday into the movements you require: the start of a cruise, the end of a cruise, or a day ashore between them. This distinction helps explain whether you are carrying holiday luggage, returning aboard later or heading onwards after disembarkation. Choose your own pickup and drop-off in the Transekur wizard and select matching locations. Review their order before proceeding. The port belongs at the beginning when you leave the ship and at the end when you board. Save a copy of the reservation with your other travel records.

Cruise transfers — questions

Which guide applies?
Match the terminal printed on your paperwork to the corresponding guide above. A hotel destination does not determine which page applies. If you see only a regional label, obtain the facility's name from the cruise company before choosing a transfer.
Are these interchangeable terminals?
Think of each named port as a distinct place in your research. Puerto Plata alone does not distinguish its cruise terminals, while La Romana belongs to another region. The name assigned to your call takes priority over a destination label.
Can I select my accommodation?
Type the accommodation name into the pickup or drop-off field and select the suggestion. You control both endpoints. Cross-check the street address with your hotel confirmation, taking care with brands that operate several properties or use similar names across locations.
What belongs in my transfer brief?
Prepare the port name, sailing date, endpoints and whether you are starting, finishing or temporarily leaving a cruise. Note luggage and any assistance needs for discussion. This information explains your circumstances without relying on the destination name to communicate everything.
Where do route estimates fit into planning?
Typical road times from Transekur's dispatch zone matrix anchor the overland legs: La Romana port to Bayahibe is about 25 minutes, to Casa de Campo about 30, and to the Punta Cana–Bávaro resort zone 67–71; Taíno Bay to Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is about 31 minutes and to Sosúa about 57. Use these figures when assessing the overland portion of your holiday. The road estimate alone cannot account for everything between a ship and an aircraft. Allow the cruise company and airline to explain their procedures separately.
Which ports does Transekur serve by request?
Cabo Rojo, Samaná and Santo Domingo transfers are arranged by request: send the ship, date, terminal or arrival mode shown on your itinerary, and the times you expect to be ashore and aboard. Operations confirm the meeting point and a written plan before anything is charged. Taíno Bay, Amber Cove and La Romana connect to the standard booking flow.
Where are collection instructions?
Collection instructions are specific to the terminal and booking. Private transfers normally use a single designated boarding and de-boarding point at each port — ask the ship's crew where it is at your terminal. Obtain the guidance before travelling and save an offline copy. Consult the port page for context, keeping your reservation and contact information together for reference ashore.
Where can I check upcoming cruise ship calls in the Dominican Republic?
The Transekur cruise-port schedule lists the calls we have verified for seven Dominican cruise destinations and shows the date each port schedule was last checked. Cruise lines and port operators may change their schedules.
Why are some cruise arrival and departure times blank?
A time is shown only when a defensible source publishes it. A blank field means Transekur has not verified that clock time; it is not an estimated midnight or a placeholder.
How often is the Dominican Republic cruise schedule checked?
The schedule is reviewed on a weekly cycle. Each port section displays its own last-verified date because source coverage can differ by port.
