We are replacing our fleet with electric vehicles, category by category

Transekur began buying electric vehicles in 2020 and has been adding them ever since. The commitment is simple and we will state it plainly: as each vehicle category we operate becomes available in an electric version, we replace it, with the objective of an eventually 100% electric fleet.

Today that means fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge vehicles in service, identified with Transekur ELECTRIC plates and decals. They run on the same terms as everything else we operate: our vehicles, our employed chauffeurs.

For context on what buying an electric vehicle in the Dominican Republic meant in 2020: according to the Dirección General de Aduanas, there were 1,905 electric vehicles in the entire country in December 2020. That is the year we started.

Why it matters to you

If you are a traveller

The reasons to care are immediate and physical rather than abstract.

  • A silent cabin. No engine noise for the length of the drive from the airport.
  • No fuel smell, inside the vehicle or while you are loading luggage.
  • No idling in the pickup line while the air conditioning runs.

If you are booking for a company or a production

Ground transport now falls inside the emissions reporting that many companies, studios and streamers are obliged to produce. An electric transfer is something you can report against those obligations; a combustion transfer is not. For a growing number of clients this has moved from a preference to a procurement requirement.

Tell us at enquiry stage that electric vehicles matter for your account, and we will tell you what we can put on the job for your dates and routes.

The commitment, concretely

We are not claiming to be an electric fleet. We are claiming a direction of travel, and we would rather be held to the accurate version of it.

  • Purchasing of electric vehicles started in 2020 and has continued since.
  • Volvo XC40 Recharge vehicles are in service today, on Transekur ELECTRIC plates.
  • Each category we operate gets replaced with an electric version as one becomes available for that category.
  • The objective is a fleet that is eventually 100% electric.
  • The categories that have no viable electric equivalent yet — the larger group vehicles in particular — remain combustion until one exists. We are not going to pretend otherwise.

What has not changed

The electric transition is not a service downgrade dressed up as a virtue. Every standard the company was built on applies to the electric vehicles exactly as it applies to the rest.

  • The vehicles are ours — bought, maintained and inspected by us, not brokered from a third party.
  • The chauffeur is our employee: trained, bilingual, in uniform, on a dispatched trip.
  • Same flight tracking, same meet-and-greet, same dispatch centre, same standard of service.

Electric fleet questions

Does Transekur have electric vehicles?
Yes. Transekur began purchasing electric vehicles in 2020 and has been adding them since. Fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge vehicles are in service today, identified with Transekur ELECTRIC plates and decals, driven by our own employed chauffeurs.
Can I request an electric vehicle for my transfer?
You can ask for one, but you cannot select it online: the booking system's vehicle categories do not include a separate electric class. Mention it when you book or contact us and our reservations team will tell you whether an electric vehicle is available for your date, route and party size.
Is the Transekur fleet fully electric yet?
No, and we will not say otherwise. Several of the categories we operate — the larger group vehicles above all — have no viable electric equivalent on this market yet, so those vehicles are still combustion. Our commitment is that each category is replaced with an electric version as one becomes available, with the objective of an eventually 100% electric fleet.
Do you provide emissions data for corporate sustainability reporting?
We do not publish an emissions report, and we are not going to imply that we produce one. What we can do is discuss your specific requirement: tell us what your reporting framework needs from a ground transport supplier and what trips it covers, and we will tell you honestly what we are able to document and what we are not.
Was Transekur the first company in the Dominican Republic with electric vehicles?
We do not make that claim, because we cannot prove it. What we can say is the date and the context: we started buying electric vehicles in 2020, a year in which, according to the Dirección General de Aduanas, there were 1,905 electric vehicles in the entire country.
