Which Airport for Hilton La Romana and Bayahibe Resorts?

The short answer

Most guests heading to Bayahibe or La Romana fly into Punta Cana International (PUJ) or Santo Domingo Las Américas (SDQ). PUJ has the widest choice of direct flights and the shorter drive; SDQ is often cheaper and much quieter to clear. La Romana (LRM) is closest of all but has limited flight options. We operate daily private transfers to Bayahibe and La Romana from all three.

The three airports in play

Punta Cana International (PUJ) is the busiest airport in the region, with flights to a large number of cities across many countries. Santo Domingo Las Américas (SDQ) is the capital's international gateway. La Romana Casa de Campo (LRM) is nearest to the Bayahibe resorts, but its schedule is thin, so most travelers cannot build a trip around it.

Flying through Punta Cana (PUJ)

  • The widest route network in the Caribbean, so you are much more likely to find a direct flight from an airport near you.
  • More airlines serve PUJ than SDQ, which usually means more fare options too.
  • Ground transfer to Bayahibe or La Romana takes roughly 50–60 minutes.
  • It is a busy resort airport: the arrival feels tropical, but immigration and customs lines can be long in high season.

Flying through Santo Domingo (SDQ)

  • Airfares are often cheaper into SDQ than into PUJ.
  • SDQ is a city airport rather than a resort airport, so it is less crowded, and immigration and customs lines are typically much shorter — you are frequently out of the terminal faster.
  • Good coverage from major US hubs, including JFK, Miami, Newark, Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta, plus seasonal Canadian service from Toronto and Montreal and routes from cities such as Dallas–Fort Worth and Washington Dulles.
  • The trade-off is drive time: about an hour and a half to Bayahibe or La Romana, against 50–60 minutes from PUJ.

Flying into La Romana (LRM)

LRM is the closest airport to the Bayahibe hotel strip and to Casa de Campo, and it is small enough that you clear it quickly. The limitation is availability — the flight options to and from LRM are few. If your dates happen to line up with an LRM route, it is the easiest arrival in the country.

So which should you book?

It comes down to fares and patience. If flight prices are similar, PUJ saves you around half an hour of driving. If SDQ is meaningfully cheaper, you are trading that half hour for a calmer airport and possibly a lower fare — a trade many of our guests happily make.

Whichever you land at, we monitor the flight, meet you inside the terminal, and drive you straight to your resort.
