How do I check that a Dominican Republic transfer company is properly licensed and insured?
Five checks you can make before you pay — and what a straight answer to each one looks like.

Why this is worth two minutes of your time
Ground transportation in the Dominican Republic is regulated by INTRANT — the Instituto Nacional de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre. An operator that carries passengers commercially is expected to hold an operating licence for the class of service it provides, be registered with the tax authority, and carry insurance that covers the people it transports.
None of that is visible from a website, a WhatsApp number or a stranger at the curb. It is, however, easy to ask about — and the answer you get tells you most of what you need to know. This page is a checklist you can use on any operator, including us.
Check 1 — the operating licence
Ask: *what is your INTRANT operating licence number, and what service class does it cover?*
A licence is issued to a named company for a specific class of service. A useful answer contains a licence number, the legal name of the licensee, and a validity period. A vague answer — "we're fully legal", "all our drivers are registered" — is not the same thing as a number you can write down.

Check 2 — the RNC
Ask: *what is your RNC?*
The RNC is the Dominican tax registration number of a formally constituted business. A company that invoices legally has one and shares it without hesitation, because it appears on every receipt it issues. If a transfer is being sold to you by a business with no RNC to give you, there is no company standing behind the trip — only an individual.

Check 3 — passenger insurance
Ask: *do you carry commercial passenger liability insurance for the vehicle I'll be riding in?*
This is the check most travellers skip and the one that matters most if something goes wrong. Personal auto cover on a private car is not the same as commercial cover for paying passengers. You are asking whether the policy covers *you*, as a fare-paying passenger, in that vehicle.

Check 4 — a written quote, in advance
Ask: *can you send me the full price in writing, with the vehicle class and the meeting point?*
A legitimate operator quotes a fixed total before you travel and puts it in writing. Anything decided at the curb — after you have landed, with your luggage in your hands and your family waiting — is being decided in the seller's favour, not yours. The written quote is also your record if the vehicle that shows up is not the one you paid for.
Check 5 — who is actually driving
Ask: *will I get the driver's name and the vehicle before pickup, and where exactly will they meet me?*
An operator that dispatches its own trips knows the answer. One that resells your booking to whoever is available that morning usually cannot tell you until the day, if at all. Getting a named meeting point inside the terminal — rather than "call us when you land" — is a good sign that a real dispatch operation stands behind the reservation.
What a clean answer set looks like
- A licence number, issued to a named company, for a stated service class.
- An RNC you can put on an expense report.
- Confirmation of commercial passenger liability cover.
- A written, fixed quote naming the vehicle class.
- A specific meeting point, and driver details before pickup.
If the answers do not come
You do not need to argue with anyone or diagnose whether an operator is legal. If a company will not put its licence number, its RNC and its price in writing, that is your answer, and there are operators that will. Book the one that did.
