Eden Roc Cap Cana is a Relais & Châteaux house of 68 accommodations split across two settings, and that split is the only thing we really need from you before you land. The inland boutique segment is 34 free-standing suites and villas set in gardens around a lagoon-style pool — no tower, no single grand lobby, and many suites with their own pool. The second setting is the beach club at Caletón, with beachfront two-bedroom suites and oceanfront bungalows on the water. Ask a chauffeur for "Eden Roc" and you are asking for two different destinations.

Suite, villa or beach club — name it on the booking

When the reservation carries the suite, villa or cluster identifier, the drive is one clean line from the Cap Cana entrance to your own door. When it carries the property name alone, the last stretch turns into a search with your luggage still in the back. Guests who want to start at the water rather than the room say so at booking and we set them down at the beach club instead; the two are far enough apart that each suite is given its own golf cart for moving between them.

Small parties, serious luggage

The parties on this route are small — a couple, two couples, or a family taking a villa — and rarely light. Design-led boutique travel arrives with full-size cases, and this is a property with a golf clubhouse restaurant at Hoyo 19 and preferred access to Punta Espada, so clubs are ordinary here. The class is set by the luggage, not the head count: two adults with three or four large cases are a Minivan; four adults travelling for golf are a Full-Size SUV, which is the class with the boot depth to take bags on top of clubs with nothing riding in the cabin.

Families take the villas, and that is a different vehicle again

Eden Roc keeps a kids' club and three- and four-bedroom villas, so multi-generational bookings are common. A villa party of six or eight with a stroller and a week of luggage is a Sprinter, not two cars. Child seats have to be reserved with the vehicle — the correct seat is fitted before your chauffeur leaves for the airport — so give us the children's ages when you book.

Golf, marina and dinner inside the gate

Guests here move around Cap Cana more than resort guests do: a tee time at Punta Espada, a boat from the marina, dinner at Mediterraneo or BLUE Grill + Bar at the beach club, a nightcap at the Riva Bar. If the week looks like that, holding the same chauffeur and vehicle for the stay works better than booking single transfers as each plan appears, and it is much easier to arrange before you fly than from a suite terrace on day two.

Arrival, handled quietly
