If nothing on your trip requires Santo Domingo — no meeting, no relative, no reason to be in the capital at all — Punta Cana remains the shorter, simpler road into Casa de Campo, and we'd rather say so than let the page argue against your own itinerary. The capital case only holds when the capital is genuinely part of the trip.

Where SDQ earns its place is precisely the combined trip: business first, then the beach, or a family visiting relatives before decompressing at the resort. In both cases the extra length of the drive is not a cost you're paying for nothing — it's the price of doing two things on one flight instead of two.
