Punta Cana Airport to Catalonia Bayahibe — Private Transfer

Catalonia Bayahibe is the current public name of the property many guests still know as Gran Dominicus, and it shares a complex with the adults-only Catalonia Royal La Romana. A private transfer brings your party from the terminal to the reception named on your confirmation.

Three names and two receptions in one place is a lot of surface for a booking to go wrong on. Here is how we hold it steady.

Quote my Catalonia Bayahibe arrival

One complex, two check-ins, one of them adults-only

Catalonia Royal La Romana is adults-only and is part of the same complex as Catalonia Bayahibe. A complex is not a hotel: it is an address that contains more than one registration desk, and a vehicle can only be sent to one of them.

The consequence is asymmetric. A family arriving at the adults-only desk is not simply in the wrong queue — they are at a property their booking does not entitle them to enter. That is a worse ten minutes than being at the wrong end of a car park.

Complexes also share signage, an access road and, often, a security post, which means the first person who can tell you that you are in the wrong place may be several hundred metres from the desk you actually want. The fix is upstream: get the exact property onto the booking, and the question never arises at the barrier.

We resolve it by never accepting “Catalonia” as a drop-off on its own. The full property name, as the resort wrote it to you, is what goes on the sheet.

Gran Dominicus is still in circulation

Old names outlive rebrands in the places travellers actually look: a guidebook bought two years ago, a saved link, a message from the relative who came here first. Gran Dominicus is that name for this property.

Put both on the record

Current name in the drop-off field, historical name and your resort reservation number in the notes. The field drives the vehicle; the notes let an agent reconcile two documents without ringing you at the baggage belt.

We read the property back to you in writing when the booking is accepted, so any mismatch surfaces while it is still free to fix.

Landing before check-in opens

Catalonia advertises Privileged early check-in and late checkout, subject to availability. That is the resort’s offer to grant or decline, and it is worth asking them directly before your trip rather than discovering the answer in the lobby.

What we control is narrower and more reliable: your chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall with your name on a tablet, there are two hours of free waiting time after landing, and we track the flight from departure so an early or late arrival is already known before you clear immigration.

If the room is not ready, the resort holds luggage and the beach does not require a key. A morning arrival here is rarely wasted.

Time on the road, and from which airport

Typical driving time to the Bayahibe / Dominicus zone, where the resort sits: about 58 min from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) (71 km) · 94 min from Santo Domingo (SDQ) (121 km) · 31 min from La Romana (LRM) (26 km) · 190 min from Samaná El Catey (AZS) (236 km). These are zone-level figures for the whole Bayahibe / Dominicus dispatch zone rather than one property — every resort on this coast dispatches from the same routing row. Google Maps routing computed August 2026, and actual times vary with traffic. Driving estimates exclude immigration, baggage claim and hotel check-in.

That is a dispatch-zone figure covering Bayahibe and Dominicus together — the same row we would quote for any property in this complex or next to it. La Romana is the nearest airport to the whole stretch, with far fewer scheduled flights than Punta Cana, which is why most guests still land at PUJ.

The four-airport comparison sits on the Bayahibe and Dominicus transfers hub, and the wider gateway comparison on the Dominican Republic airport comparison.

Questions about the Catalonia Bayahibe run

Is Catalonia Bayahibe the same hotel as Gran Dominicus?
Catalonia Bayahibe is the current public name and Gran Dominicus is the historical alias for it. If your confirmation, guidebook or forwarded email says Gran Dominicus, book under the current name and add the old one in the notes so both strings sit on one record.
What is the difference between Catalonia Bayahibe and Catalonia Royal La Romana?
They are part of the same complex, but Catalonia Royal La Romana is adults-only and has its own check-in. Book to whichever one your room confirmation names — arriving at the other reception with luggage means being walked back across the complex.
We land early. Can we get into the room before standard check-in?
Catalonia advertises Privileged early check-in and late checkout subject to availability, so it is worth asking the resort directly rather than assuming. Availability is theirs to grant, not ours, and we would rather you hear it from them than plan a morning around our guess.
How long does the drive from Punta Cana take?
We publish one figure for the Bayahibe and Dominicus dispatch zone, shown on this page, because that is the finest granularity our routing data holds here. It excludes immigration, baggage claim and check-in.
Does the resort include an airport transfer?
Read your own confirmation. Some rates and operator packages bundle ground transport and some do not, and we would rather you used an entitlement you already hold than pay for a second ride. If the confirmation is silent on transport, treat the drive as yours to arrange.

Driving figures on this page come from one routing row for the Bayahibe / Dominicus dispatch zone, not from a per-property measurement: every resort on this stretch dispatches from that same zone. Times are planning figures that vary with traffic, and they exclude immigration, baggage claim and hotel check-in. Resort facts are drawn from each brand's own published material; where a property does not publish something, we say so rather than fill the gap.
