Christmas and New Year in Punta Cana: plan the airport transfer before you pack

The period from December 15 through January 15 is especially busy in our experience, with heavier activity inside the airport and on surrounding roads. Christmas, New Year’s Eve and the first week of January require careful planning. If crowded immigration or terminal procedures concern you, ask our team about separate VIP airport assistance. Confirm exactly what your reservation includes, because airport assistance and private ground transportation are different services.

Count luggage as carefully as passengers

Tell us the exact number of adults and children travelling. General estimates about how many holiday visitors may be coming to the Dominican Republic do not help us select your vehicle. We need the confirmed size of your own party.

Luggage matters just as much. A party of four with four suitcases, a stroller and golf bags needs a different vehicle assessment from four people carrying only cabin bags. List checked suitcases, carry-ons, wheelchairs, strollers, golf equipment and other large items when requesting your transfer. Do not leave special items until arrival, when changing the transport plan may be difficult during the holiday rush.

If you need a child seat, request the appropriate type and obtain confirmation. A vehicle having enough room for a child does not mean a particular seat has automatically been arranged.

When relatives arrive on separate flights, decide whether each group needs its own pickup or whether everyone intends to leave together. Give our team every flight number, arrival date and passenger breakdown. Do not assume a driver can wait for a later flight unless that arrangement is confirmed. Holiday flight delays, immigration lines and baggage collection can make informal meeting plans unreliable.

For villas, provide the confirmed address or location pin through our private booking channel. Tell us if entry requires gate authorization, host coordination or a specific entrance. Keep private access details out of public reviews and social media posts.

Know what your airport service includes

A private airport transfer and VIP airport assistance are separate services. The transfer covers the confirmed ground journey in your reservation. VIP assistance concerns the airport experience and must be requested and confirmed independently. If you want both, say so clearly when contacting our team rather than expecting one service to include the other.

This distinction is particularly important during the Christmas and New Year period. In our experience, the airport, immigration areas and roads outside PUJ can all be crowded between December 15 and January 15. Major holiday travel can also affect the days before and after the holiday itself. We therefore recommend arranging both transportation and any desired airport assistance in advance.

Read the meeting instructions issued for your actual terminal and service. A photograph of an airport exit on a travel blog is not a substitute for your confirmation. Keep our confirmed contact method available on your phone, together with your booking information. Avoid relying entirely on airport Wi-Fi by saving the essential details before your flight.

Check how schedule changes and waiting time are handled. If the airline changes your flight number, date or arrival time, send the revised information to our team. Do not assume every itinerary change will reach us automatically. The same applies if you change hotels after arranging the transfer.

Our approach during other high-demand periods, including spring break and major holiday weeks, is similar: accurate details and advance planning reduce uncertainty. No airport assistance service can promise that an airport will be empty, so review the actual inclusions and meeting procedure rather than treating VIP assistance as a guarantee that every line or delay will disappear.

Arrange the return while the itinerary is in front of you

Arrange your return pickup while you have the flight and accommodation details available. We need the departure airport, airline, flight number, departure date, complete pickup location, passenger count and luggage information. Confirm whether your itinerary uses PUJ in both directions; some Dominican Republic trips arrive through one airport and depart through another.

The correct pickup time is not simply the arrival drive time applied in reverse. It must account for the departure flight, airline check-in requirements, pickup location and expected road conditions. Christmas and New Year traffic outside the airport can affect the journey, while busy terminal conditions may increase the time travellers want before departure. Our team plans from the confirmed itinerary rather than an assumed journey time.

If you move to another resort or villa during your stay, update the pickup address immediately. Resort names should be written in full because properties with similar names can be in different areas. Villa guests should reconfirm access instructions and make sure the group is ready at the agreed meeting point.

Review whether your reservation covers one direction or both, the confirmed vehicle category, listed luggage, requested child seats, VIP assistance if selected, and the applicable change and cancellation terms. Keep the final confirmation available until your trip is complete.

Your five-detail booking check

Before sending a request, have five essentials ready: flight number and travel date, full resort or villa destination, exact passenger count, complete luggage list, and return flight information if you also need departure transportation. These details allow our team to assess the trip instead of making assumptions during one of Punta Cana’s busiest travel periods.

Check every traveller’s itinerary, especially when a family group is coming from different cities. Two flights on the same day may arrive at different times or terminals, and an itinerary can cross midnight. Use the date shown for arrival in the Dominican Republic, not only the date on which the first flight leaves home.

Once confirmed, share the meeting instructions with every adult in the party. Choose one primary contact, but make sure another traveller can reach us if the primary phone is unavailable. On arrival, follow the instructions in your reservation and communicate through the confirmed channel if anything changes.
