Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) exists because the same development that built Tortuga Bay Puntacana Resort & Club needed an airport for the estate it was creating. The two sit on one piece of land. For nearly every other resort covered on this site, the page exists to describe a road — a highway, a coastal run, a night drive. Here, describing the road would be padding an argument that doesn't need one.

That does not make the arrival trivial, it just relocates the difficulty. On a route this short, everything that could go wrong happens indoors: at immigration, at the carousel, or in the gap between the two while a family tries to keep track of bags and each other in an unfamiliar hall.

The resort's included arrangement is tied to a specific stay booked with the property. It does not automatically extend to guests arriving a day or two before check-in or leaving after checkout to explore elsewhere, to guests splitting their trip with a separate hotel, or to a party travelling on to Cap Cana, Uvero Alto, La Romana or Santo Domingo either before or after the Tortuga Bay portion of the visit.

It also tends not to cover movements during the stay itself that fall outside the property's own scheduling — a mid-week flight for one member of a group, a same-day return for a business meeting, or an onward connection booked independently of the resort. Those are the cases this page is written for: not replacing what Tortuga Bay already arranges, but covering what sits around it.

A five-minute road doesn't change what a family of six, or a group travelling with golf equipment and multiple checked bags, needs at the curb. Vehicle capacity still has to match the party, and a group split across two ride-hailing cars for a five-minute trip is a worse experience than a single vehicle sized correctly from the outset, particularly when it follows an hour indoors managing bags and children.

This matters more, not less, on a short route: guests sometimes assume that because the drive is negligible, any car will do. The terminal side is where that assumption gets tested, and it's the group with the most luggage that feels it first.

Even on an estate this compact, a late arrival changes the experience of the terminal itself: fewer staffed counters, quieter roads inside the resort grounds, and a guest more likely to be travelling with young children or after a long red-eye. An escort arranged in advance means someone is watching for the flight and ready at the gate regardless of the hour, rather than a guest working out, at midnight, whether their own arrangement is still expecting them.
