Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) to Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda
Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda is a family hotel beside Playa Bávaro, inside the Bahia Principe complex on this coast, and it was called Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda before the rename.
It also has the most confusable name on the coast. There are Playa Esmeralda properties at Miches, well up the shoreline in a different dispatch zone, and a transfer sent to the wrong Esmeralda is not a small correction.
This page exists to settle which hotel you mean before a vehicle is assigned. We serve this hotel on real reservations; what we ask for is the exact hotel name and the name your reservation is held under, and the chauffeur confirms the drop-off from those.
Typical driving time to the Bávaro–Macao zone, where the resort sits: about 45 min from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) (30 km). These are zone-level figures for the whole Bávaro–Macao dispatch zone rather than one property — every resort on this coast dispatches from the same routing row. Dispatch planning figure from our own zone matrix, and actual times vary with traffic. Driving estimates exclude immigration, baggage claim and hotel check-in.

Book my Explore Esmeralda transferTwo names, and one that belongs to another coast
This hotel is Explore Esmeralda now and was Luxury Esmeralda before. Both names point here, and either is fine on a transfer booking as long as it matches your own confirmation.
The name to be careful with is Esmeralda on its own. Playa Esmeralda at Miches is a different place with different hotels, up the coast and dispatched as its own zone — we write about it on the Miches destination guide, and mention it here only so you can rule it out. If your hotel confirmation says Bahia Principe and Bávaro, you want this page. If it says Miches, you want that one, and the transfer is a different booking with a different drive.
The sister hotels the property lists
The hotel's own site lists its sister hotels: Escape Ambar, Explore Legend, Escape Aquamarine, Explore Punta Cana and Explore Turquesa.
That list is useful to you for one reason. Every one of those names is a separate hotel with its own reception, and several of them sit in the same complex environment on this coast, so a booking that says only "Bahia Principe" could plausibly mean any of them. When we ask which hotel, we are not being pedantic; we are removing five other candidates. Anything beyond the names — what each hotel includes, who it admits, how it is laid out — belongs to Bahia Principe and is not ours to describe.
What we ask for and what we do with it
Two pieces of information do all the work: the exact hotel name, and the name the hotel reservation is held under.
With those, dispatch assigns the vehicle to a specific hotel before your flight lands, and the chauffeur confirms the drop-off from the booking rather than from a decision made on arrival. Without them, a transfer is addressed to a group of hotels and someone has to choose. We do not publish which entrance a vehicle uses or what happens at the gate, because we have not verified it and a page that guesses at that is worse than a page that stops here.
Confirm which Esmeralda, then the flight
Name the hotel exactly as your confirmation prints it — Explore Esmeralda or Luxury Esmeralda, in Bávaro — add the flight and the party, and we confirm a private vehicle against it.
Where we meet you inside Punta Cana Airport (PUJ)
Your flight is tracked, and the chauffeur waits up to two hours after landing at no extra charge — a queue at immigration does not cost you the ride.
The meeting point is sent to you in writing before departure. That matters most on a first visit, when the terminal is unfamiliar and the arrivals area is busy with several flights at once. If you want the indoor part shortened, a VIP fast track meets passengers ahead of the immigration line and moves the party through as a group; the Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) hub sets out how it works alongside the transfer.
The drive to Playa Bávaro
The hotel sits beside Playa Bávaro, in our Bávaro–Macao dispatch zone, and the figure published on this page is the zone number our own system dispatches from.
It is planning data. It varies with traffic, and it stops at the hotel: immigration, baggage and check-in are not in it. That is why we time the pickup from your flight rather than from a booking slot, and why the number on this page is the zone figure rather than a tighter one written to look precise. The Bávaro destination guide describes the stretch of coast itself.
Families, seats and bags
This is a family hotel, so most arrivals here involve children, and children change the vehicle rather than the route.
Child seats are added when you request them at booking; we never assume one is already on board. Suitcase capacity is fixed per vehicle class, so the number that actually sizes your vehicle is bags plus passengers, not passengers alone. If your party lands on more than one flight, tell us — two pickups timed to two flights beats one group waiting in the arrivals hall for the other.
The return, and the rest of the stay
The departure pickup is agreed in advance and held against the same hotel name as the arrival, so the vehicle waits where you actually are.
We set the departure time from your flight and your airline's published check-in window, not from the drive time on its own. Any other movement — an excursion transfer, a run to a second hotel, one person leaving early — is booked as its own leg with its own confirmed pickup point. Cancellations follow our standing policy: full refund fourteen or more days out, partial refund or a one-year credit inside that, nothing refundable inside forty-eight hours.
Sports kit, dive gear and the bags that do not look like bags
Suitcase capacity is a published number per vehicle class, and a golf bag, a dive holdall or a pushchair occupies that space exactly as a suitcase does.
So we ask you to count them. A party of four with four cases fits a class comfortably; the same four with two sets of clubs does not, and the difference is discovered either at booking or on the pavement. Declaring the awkward items in advance costs a line in the form and lets us assign a class that carries the lot with the passengers seated properly rather than around the luggage. Fragile or high-value equipment travels in a private vehicle that stops only where you are going, which is the one part of this we can promise, and the fleet page sets out the passenger and suitcase limits we hold ourselves to per class.
Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) to Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: what guests ask
- Is this hotel the same as Playa Esmeralda at Miches?
- No. Explore Esmeralda is beside Playa Bávaro; the Playa Esmeralda hotels are at Miches, further up the coast in a different dispatch zone and a separate transfer.
- My voucher says Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda. Is that this hotel?
- Yes. Luxury Esmeralda is the former name of Explore Esmeralda. Book the transfer with whichever name your confirmation prints.
- How long is the drive from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ)?
- The zone figure published above this FAQ is our dispatch number for the Bávaro–Macao coast. It varies with traffic and excludes immigration, baggage claim and hotel check-in.
- Why do you ask for the reservation name as well as the hotel?
- Because several Bahia Principe hotels each keep their own reception. The exact hotel name plus the reservation name is what the chauffeur confirms your drop-off from.
- Do you already serve this hotel?
- Yes. We have driven guests to Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda on real reservations within the last twelve months.

This page describes an arrival, not a property. It states only where the property is, which airport serves it and what the resort itself publishes about transfers; it makes no claim about rooms, rates, facilities or awards. Confirm any resort detail with the property.
Airport names, terminal layouts and flight schedules are the airports' and airlines' own and change without notice; confirm your own itinerary with your airline. Driving figures on this page come from our routing dataset, are planning figures that vary with traffic, and exclude immigration, baggage claim and hotel check-in. Where the dataset holds no figure for a pair, this page makes the point without a number rather than estimating one.
