About Transekur — Transekūr means safe transport

In 2012 Dan Guzmán bought a Chevrolet Suburban for his own use. People kept asking to rent it. He kept saying yes.

He and Ricardo Perez founded Transekur that year. Both are still operating partners — they run the company day to day rather than owning it from a distance, which in a market full of brokers is the difference between a promise and someone answerable for it.

That is the actual beginning of this company — not a business plan, a pattern of requests. Santo Domingo had no premium ground transport of the kind every other major capital took for granted, and the requests kept coming until the answer had to become a company.

What grew out of that Suburban is a company that moves people and infrastructure for some of the country's hardest logistical jobs — airport arrivals, film sets, festival grounds, institutional events. Airport transfers are the part of it you can book in two minutes, and they are held to the same standard as everything else.

2012

One Suburban, and then a second one

The first vehicle was never meant to be a fleet. It became one because the demand was already there, waiting for someone to take it seriously.

A few months later came a second Suburban, and Transekur Global was incorporated in both the Dominican Republic and the United States, which is why a US toll-free reservations line still runs alongside the Dominican operation. From that point the question was no longer whether there was a market. It was what kind of company would serve it.

The decision

We own the vehicles and we employ the drivers

From the start we owned our vehicles and employed our drivers instead of reselling third-party operators. Almost nobody in the market did that. Most still don't.

It costs more. It is also the only way to be accountable for what actually happens on the road — who is driving, how the vehicle is maintained, what happens when a flight lands four hours late.

Trained bilingual drivers, onboard Wi-Fi and cold drinks were standard from day one. The industry followed on all three. You can see the current fleet and how the vehicles are used on airport transfers.

Growth

The service came first, the structure came after

The fleet reached eight vehicles before outside investors became interested. Only then did formal sales, operations and administrative departments exist.

The order matters. We did not build a company and then look for trips to fill it.

2014

Punta Cana

We opened a branch in Punta Cana — the single most important destination in the Caribbean and Central America — so arrivals in the east were served by our own people rather than handed off. Today that operation anchors our work across the whole country's destinations, and the weddings programmes that come with them.

Transekur Transpo

Moving infrastructure, not just passengers

It started in 2014 with a question. Pinewood Dominican Republic — the largest motion picture studio in Latin America — had been using us to move actors, directors and producers arriving to shoot in the country. Then they asked whether we could also supply production equipment.

The answer became Transekur Transpo, the first company in the Dominican Republic with a dedicated fleet of vehicles and equipment for production. It exists because a client asked a question, not because of a strategy deck. Today it works across three strands.

Film and television

Transekur Transpo has provided transportation and production equipment for international productions filmed in the Dominican Republic, including:

  • xXx: Return of Xander Cage — Pinewood DR Studios in Juan Dolio, with Cabarete, Puerto Plata and Casa de Campo

Live events and concerts

We have provided transportation, production trailers and mobile restroom units for large-scale live events across the country, including every edition of Festival Presidente since 2016 and major concerts nationwide. Transekur Transpo has provided transportation, production trailers and sanitation units for events produced by SD Concerts and edLive, among other leading Dominican event producers.

Institutional and NGO logistics

We also handle full transportation and logistics for governmental and institutional events, international summits and NGO events — the kind of work that is judged entirely on whether everyone arrives where they should, when they should.

What has not changed

Everything above is a consequence of one thing: we take the name literally. Transekūr means safe transport, and you cannot promise that on vehicles you do not own with drivers you do not employ.

  • Our vehicles are ours — bought, maintained and inspected by us.

  • Our drivers are our employees: trained, bilingual, in uniform, on dispatched trips.

  • No brokering. The company you booked is the company that shows up.

Where we are now

We run airport transfers, VIP fast track, private chauffeur service, groups and events, and weddings — and through Transekur Transpo, transportation and production infrastructure for film, live events and institutional logistics. Same fleet discipline, same employed drivers, whether it is one arrival at PUJ or a festival site.

The fleet now includes fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge vehicles, run on the same owned-and-employed model as everything else. We have been buying electric vehicles since 2020 and are replacing each category as an electric version becomes available.

When was Transekur founded?
